Kmag Blu Mar Ten Remix Competition

Blu Mar Ten formed in the 90s in the infancy of Drum & Bass, and have since produced a plethora of deep, atmospheric creations. Not surprisingly, they have been in high demand as remix artists for the likes of Erykah Badu, Alicia Keys, Annie Lennox, Terry Lee Brown and Joey Negro.

Kmag, Blu Mar Ten, Soundcloud, Surus, Loopmasters and Finyltweek have joined forces to give you the opportunity to remix ’All Or Nothing’ from their latest album ‘Love is the Devil’, which made it to number 4 in Kmag’s 10 Best Drum & Bass Album 2011. The winning entry will receive a release alongside remixes from dBridge, Marcus Intalex, BCee, Joe Syntax, Unquote and Blu Mar Ten, as part of the Love is the Devil remix project.

“We want people to take the idea and make it their own,” says Chris from Blu Mar Ten. “Really stretch the track and do something different to it. We want to hear some character and invention.”

The winner will also win a SoundCloud pro account, 2GB of free Loopmasters sample packs and £100 to spend in the Surus music platform. One runner-up and the group choice winner (the entry in the group that is favorited the most) will win a SoundCloud Lite account, a free Loopmasters sample pack and £50 to spend in the Surus music platform.

Deadline for entries is midnight GMT on Sunday February 26th 2012.

Blu Mar Ten - Track Give-away in Aid of Charity

This track was originally released on Vibez Recordings back in 2006.

We’d like to give it away to raise money for The Mayhew Animal Home, which is an animal shelter very close to our hearts as we and our friends have adopted several cats from it.

The Mayhew is funded 100% through donations, so if you download the track please help out if you can by donating here.

Anyone who donates to the shelter will be able to download a full quality WAV copy of the track.

If you can’t or won’t donate you can still download an mp3 of the track here, but I’m pretty sure most of you can afford £1.

Established in 1886, The Mayhew is one of the busiest and most effective rescue centres in London, helping thousands of animals escape from a life of cruelty and neglect each year. They provide shelter and care for cats, dogs, rabbits and when the need arises, for a wide variety of other animals.

EASTERN PROMISE AUDIO’S FIRST RELEASE ON 30TH OF SEPTEMBER 2011

New drum ‘n bass label Eastern Promise Audiois proud to announce its first official release available from 30^th September 2011. Featuring a debut from the labels own flagship, the producing crew Dam Nation, with two of their finest tracks. Setting the tone for a line of releases which will feature; Double O, Infest, Rumbleton, Phuture-T, Splinter and many other producers are in the pipeline such as Morphy, Flatliners and Acid Lab.

Eastern Promise Audio, set up by the Reactor Studios crew from Amsterdam, developed a distinct and exclusive drum n’ bass sound over the years. Heavily inspired by oriental sounds and philosophies, the label will focus on the darker, experimental side of drum ‘n bass.

EPA’s first release (EPA01) shall feature the Dam Nation tracks Mescaline on the A-side, and Under Dementia on the flip. The Dam Nation production crew consists of no less than five members, including Phuture-T, Splinter, Logikz, Reactor Grits, and Drome. The first track is, as the name suggests, an epic trip which can be neither described as either light or dark, as it ambiguously encompasses both; through many stages expressed through classic jungle breaks and deep soaring basslines, the songs progress in a spiritual way through classic gamelan sounds, whispers and soundscapes which are unpredictable and mysterious. As a heavy trip can be essentially indescribable through words, Dam Nation crew has tried doing it through sound that must be heard to be believed.

They continue their dark ride through the B-side with Under Dementia; more minimal but equally complex in drum patterning, the song opens with traditional Japanese vocals, subtle percussion and mysterious horn sounds, where a soundscape gradually starts opening up to draw the listener into its atmosphere. Once the bass stabs for the first time, the tune falls into its heavy form and reveals its skin of dazzling sounds which fill the audio spectrum and keep on coming out of unexpected corners. Again it makes no difference between a pure light and dark side (although it’s leaning to the latter), and even though less divided into stages as a trip in Mescaline, it is just as epic, dark, and mysterious.

Eastern Promise Audio EPA01, will be for sale online from their own website, Juno Download, Digital-Tunes, and Chemical Records. Their next release, the long awaited Double O EP, is scheduled for November 2011. Phuture-T will also host a new free mix featuring the most recent sounds and artists which got associated with the label, available for download soon!

Knowledge Mag, Spearhead, Addict Clothing and AV1 Production have joined forces to launch a contest for aspiring video directors. If you’ve ever fancied yourself as a music video director, or thought you could do better than videos you’ve watched, now’s your chance to step up and show everyone what you’ve got.

Directors are invited to submit their videos for the track ‘The Siren’ by Bungle ft. Ayah, the first track from the Bungle album forthcoming on Spearhead, you can download the track for free here http://soundcloud.com/knowledge/bungle-the-siren-ft-ayah. Next, film and / or animate a video using your own footage, edit it and finally upload it to the Vimeo competition group.

There’s no brief, the advice given is to use whatever equipment you’ve got. You can even use your mobile phone and edit it in iMovie, just be creative and use your imagination.

The winner will receive £500 worth of Addict Clothing of their choice and their video will be used as the official music video for the track.

The deadline for entries is midnight (GMT) September 18th and the winner will be announced by September 26th.

D*Minds (formerly Distorted Minds) is a collaboration between Jon Midwinter and Alistair Vickery; and it’s one that’s been going strong in the South West for over a decade now. Aside from their drum & bass productions, which have found homes on labels like Hospital, Digital Soundboy, Playaz and Break Beat Kaos, they also run their own record labels (D*Style and H.E.N.C.H.) as well as the club night RUN in their native Bristol. H.E.N.C.H. (aka Hard Earned Never Caught Hustling) was set up primarily as a home from Jakes to explore the darker end of the dubstep spectrum whilst D*Styles exists as a vehicle for the work of D*Minds and for other forward thinking d&b producers – their first signing was TC, a man who you’ll regularly see adorning our lineups.

Appearing here on Friday in the Critical Sound Room Two takeover, D*Minds have put together a mix that encapsulates the energy and stylistic array they’ll be displaying on the night. Featuring a slew of their material alongside pieces from producers like S.P.Y, Enei and the Icicle and Commix collaboration ‘Ultraclean,’ it sets the tone for this weekend perfectly.

Lets start with what I would say is a much overlooked track from Marcus Intalex. Released in 2009 on Hospital Records ‘This Is Drum and Bass’ album, Airbourne is a lovely arrangement of rolling, melodic drum and bass that just works.
